JRH Pancake Breakfast: Sept 12
Calling all volunteers and inkind donors!

Our Lord multiplied bread and fish, but in September we will be multiplying pancakes!  Save the date for our pancake breakfast, where guests can enjoy a hearty helping of hotcakes, sausage, and juice...and then walk off the food by taking a relaxing stroll on our beautiful grounds.  We are in need of volunteers to help with the meal and item donations for theme gift baskets to be raffled at the event.  Please contact us at (440) 884-9300 or jrhcleve@att.net if you are willing to pitch in.

Teacher's Days: August 16-20

Teachers are invited to start the school year in the right spirit by taking a day of reflection and renewal at Jesuit Retreat House.  Separate day retreats for teachers are being offered on each day during the week of August 16-20, 9am-2:30pm.  Each day includes presentations from experienced teachers in Catholic education -  such as Sr. Mary Ann Flannery, S.C. and Fr. Carl Bonk, S.J. - as well as time for quiet reflection, lunch, commissioning Mass, and staff meetings.  Cost is $25/person.  Register by August 13 or contact us to schedule a retreat for your school/staff.

An Evening of Poetry: August 31
enjoy the inspiring words of poems that move the spirit

Many people turn to poetry as a source of prayer and a way to reach down into their innermost selves.  This evening program, presented by Carl Bonk, S.J., will feature the spiritual poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins, S.J., Jessica Powers, Mary Oliver, and others.  If you are a poet yourself, we invite you to bring some of your own writings to share with us.  This evening of poetry takes place outdoors on the beautiful JRH grounds (weather permitting, otherwise to be held indoors) from 7-9pm and costs $15/person.  Register by August 27

Women's Prayer Group: Sept 27

Crisis & Contemplation: Sept 11
Day of reflection for spiritual directors and ministers

Deepen your spiritual ministry by joining us for this day of prayerful reflection. This day, presented by Rosemarie Carfagna, O.S.U., will address the experience of crisis from a contemplative perspective and offer spiritual and psychological insights into how we might understand and respond to it, not only in our personal lives, but also as it arises within the lives of those to whom we minister. The retreat takes place from 9am-2pm, includes lunch, and costs $10/person.  Retreat costs are covered in part by JRH Lay Leadership made possible by generous donations.  Register here by September 7.

Gone to the Dogs: Sept 15
reflecting on life lessons our pets teach us

A great way to think about where we are going is to hear stories from interesting people about where they have been and what they have learned. Fr. Joseph Kraker has quite a story to tell, so during this day of reflection he will share life lessons learned on his journey from  television, to pastor, to author of two books with his church dog, Vinnie. The retreat takes place 9am-2:30pm, and costs $25, including lunch.   Come for an intriguing day of reflection with a dynamic speaker who has keen insights to share. Register by September 13.

Discernment & Letting Go: Sept 17-18
24-hour retreat cultivating spiritual freedom

We have all been touched by loss at some point in our lives, and we have to find a way to deal with it and open up to new possibilities.  This 24-hour retreat will help.  It is designed for those responding to personal loss of a loved one by death or divorce, or otherwise have experienced painful separation or disappointment, such as loss of a job.  Jack Dister, S.J., experienced retreat director and chaplain at the Cleveland Clinic, will help you cultivate a liberating and life-giving sense of detachment and spiritual freedom as expressed in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola. Retreat activities include brief presentations, guided scriptural prayer, and small group sharing.  It begins Friday with 6pm supper and ends with Mass and supper at 5:30pm Saturday. Cost is $80.  Register here by September 14
